My Travel Journal

"There isn't much I haven't shared with you along the road and through it all there'd always be tomorrow's episode" - Elton John

I started traveling around the world since early 80s when I had the opportunity to combine business trips with vacations. Then later when my rezeki is in abundance, there were numerous other trips along the way for vacations, most of the time with hubby and the kids when the timing is right. I have also started to compile the journal and photo-pages covering almost more than 45 years of world wide travel. Some destinations I visited just once, others many times. Many of those places are the obvious famous places people would like to visit but some, the casual traveler doesn't even think to try. I have placed links to my travel at the side bar of my personal page, My Life Reflections, and will be updating them from time to time.

My wish is to continue my travel and complete circumnavigate the globe, insyaAllah…

Umrah Day 12: Madinah Jannat al-Baqi

“Set peace of mind as your highest goal, and organize your life around it.” – Brian Tracy

(Jannat al-Baqi after fajar)

Day 12: 30/08/24 (Friday)
Route: Madinah Jannat al-Baqi
Hotel: Madinah Emaar Elite Hotel

This morning after fajr prayers, the male jemaah had the opportunity to visit the cemetery at Jannat al Baqi also known as Baqi al Gharqad named after the al Gharqad tree, the Arabian boxthorn or desert thorn.

(To Masjid Nabawi for Fajar prayers)
(The jemaah at the Male prayer hall)
(The long queue to visit Al-Baqi')
(Sunrise at the horizon of Al-Baqi')

This cemetery is the oldest and first Islamic cemetery in the city of Medina. Jannat al Baqi is one of the two historically important holy cemeteries to Muslims. This is because many of the prophet Muhammad relatives and companions are buried here. The tomb of Imam Malik is also located in Jannat al-Baqi.

(A very long queue at the holy cemetery)
(Unmarked graves of relatives and companions)
(Alhamdulillah, completed a round of Baqi' tour)
(Reciting the doa and fatihah for the dead)

We had breakfast a little later after the men came back from their visit of Baqi.

(Our usual seats at the cafe)
(A filling breakfast)

Rested the rest of the morning while waiting for Jumaat prayers. We were in the mosque two hours earlier to avoid the crowd. I was lucky to have a place on the carpeted area in the crowded ladies prayer hall.

(Arrived early to have a preferred place in the mosque)
(The jemaah during Jumaat prayers)

We took a nap for the rest of the afternoon. It was raining heavily with thunderstorms right after Isya' prayers. Luckily we were in time to run into the shelter. Many were caught in the heavy rain. Tonight we packed our luggage as tomorrow our big luggage had to be outside the room as early as 7.00 am in the morning.

(Heavy rain three nights in a row)
