Trans-Siberian 09: Irkutsk to Yekaterinburg

"Success is not final, failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts..."

(A brief stop at Tyumen Train Station)

Day 09: Friday, 10 May 2024
Train Route: Irkutsk to Yekaterinburg (56 hrs)
Hotel: Marins Park Yekaterinburg

Today was day 3 on board. We woke up around 0400 hrs as we missed the earlier alarm. Performed subuh prayers then took our shower leisurely while everyone was still sleeping. Recited some pages of the quran before we had an early breakfast of local sliced bread with chilli tuna and hot hazelnut nescafe at Barabinsky.

(Commuters waiting for their train early in the morning)
(Not so busy small station)
(Another smaller station enroute)

There was an hour stop at Omsk Train Station. Omsk is a busy train station where lots of passengers embark and disembark. It is located in Southeastern Siberia and has a population of 1.1 million.

(Stretching our legs)
(Some sort of celebration at the station)

We had pilaf rice and sambal kacang bilis for lunch on board. The rest of the afternoon was spent napping. During a brief train stop at Tyumen we exited the train station and bought packed pilaf rice, kebab and potatoes for dinner later. It was a windy 9°C weather outside.

(Tyumen Railway Station, a long stop)
(Crossing the overhead bridge to the terminal building)
(A busy crowd exiting the station)
(Tyumen Railway Station, the main terminal)
(Tyumen is the oil and gas capital of Russia)
(Packed pilaf from a halal eatery, for dinner later)

Arrived at Yekaterinburg Train Station around 2320 hrs. Our big luggage were kept at the luggage storage in the train station. We only brought to the hotel our carry-on bag for a night stay at Marins Park Hotel Yekaterinburg. The hotel is located just across the railway station. The weather was 4°C and windy. It was pretty chilly even for a short walk to the hotel.

(All ready to disembark in Yekaterinburg)
(Waiting patiently for our turns to get down the train)
(Wrapped up for the chilly weather)

We had to request for a portable heater as the room heating system was not functioning and the weather was too cold for comfort. The weather was 4°C outside.
