2017 UK Trip: 05 Edinburgh, Scotland - Athens of the North..

“Only by going alone in silence, without baggage, can one truly get into the heart of the wilderness. All other travel is mere dust and hotels and baggage and chatter...” – John Muir

(Edinburgh, the resting place of Lord Voldermort)

Date: 8 May 2017 (Monday)
Route: Carter Bar – Edinburgh
Distance: 58 miles (1 hr 31 min)
Hotel: Travelodge Edinburg Cameron Toll Hotel (£49)

We arrived in Edinburgh early noon and checked in the Travelodge situated near Edinburgh International Airport. As it was still early, we decided to explore Scotland’s capital city.

(Taking the Lothian bus to Ocean Terminal)

Instead of taking the Hop on Hop off bus tour, we took the Park and Ride bus tour to Edinburgh city which cost us only £3.20/pax. The tour of the city took almost two hours from the Edinburgh International Airport to Ocean Terminal Harbour and back.

(J.K. Rowling would often write her manuscript in this city)
(Watching the sunset at the national Museum roof terrace)
(The water of Leith in Union Canal)
(Having early dinner in the sun dappled afternoon)
(A unique sculpture)

Edinburgh is the capital city of Scotland and one of its 32 local government council areas. Located in Lothian on the Firth of Forth's southern shore, it is Scotland's second most populous city and the seventh most populous in the United Kingdom. Recognised as the capital of Scotland since at least the 15th century,

Edinburgh is home to the Scottish Parliament and the seat of the monarchy in Scotland. The city is also the annual venue of the General Assembly of the Church of Scotland and home to national institutions such as the National Museum of Scotland, the National Library of Scotland and the Scottish National Gallery. It is the largest financial centre in the UK after London.

(Edinburgh Central Mosque in the middle of the city)

Edinburgh Central Mosque, officially known as the King Fahd Mosque and Islamic Centre of Edinburgh, is located on Potterrow near the University of Edinburgh central area and the National Museum of Scotland. The main hall can hold over one thousand worshippers, with women praying on a balcony overlooking the hall. The architecture combines traditional Islamic features with some Scots baronial style.
