Day 11: 14 October 2016 (Friday)
Distance: 595 km
Route: Ghardaia - Algiers – Doha - KL

The wake-up call was at 2:00 am. We had to rush as the National Army was ready to escort us out of Ghardaia.

(A beautiful sunrise in the desert)
(Wonderful colors of the horizon)
(Another 352 km to Algiers)

It was a nice day to travel across the Sahara via the Trans-Sahara Highway. After last night’s sand storm the sky was clear and the air fresh. We stopped at a small restaurant in Laghouat along the route to perform Fajar payers and had our breakfast.

(The border of Wilaya De Djelfa)
(Waiting for the change of National Guard's escort)
(Newly paved Trans-Sahara highway)
(Major roadworks at some parts of the highway)
(The shadow of our van under scorching sun)
(A short pit stop for toilet break)

The rest of the journey to Algiers was uneventful with a few stops along the way. We passed through the towns of Laghouat, Djelfa, Medea and Blida. At each district there would be a change of National Guards to escort us.

(A town along the route)
(A statue of a Jedi in town?)
(The meeting of the Jedi)
(The locals having breakfast in the open air cafe)
(Friends prefer to meet along the corridor)
(A mule cart in the field)
(Camel farms along the highway)
(Another town, getting nearer to our destination)

It took us 12 hours to reach Algiers International Airport, in time for us to check in and board the plane to Doha onward flight to Kuala Lumpur.

(Scenes along the Sahara route)
(Houses on the rocky hill)
(An oasis in the desert)
(Wild camels roaming the barren land)
(A newly built bridge linking highways)
(Fruit sellers by the road side)
(A motorcade escort by the National Guards)
(Crossing the mountain range to Algiers)
(An isolated R&R area on the mountain)
(A junction leading to town)
(A new stadium under construction in Algiers)
(Goodbye Algeria! In time for our flight to KL)

We touched down at KLIA safely on Saturday afternoon. Alhamdulillah….

Note:
Some sights in Algiers were postponed to the last day but because of the flight cancellation from Ghardaia to Algiers, we missed out on the Algiers Casbah, Palais des Rais, Arts and Tradition Museum, Masjid Ali Bitchine, Sidi Abdelrahman Mausoleum, Museum Islam Calligraphy, Bardo Museum and the three famous mosques.
