Train travel in Italy is a convenient and usually the best option for visiting cities, where driving is nerve-wrecking and parking is scarce and expensive. In major cities, the train station is usually in the city center or right on the perimeter.
We booked an early train from Genoa to Rome and enjoyed an idyllic countryside view out the train window. As we would be passing Pisa en route to Rome, we decided to disembark in Pisa Centrale. We kept our luggage in the train station for a small fee. There's a lot more to Pisa than the Leaning Tower and walking from the train station, across the river, and through Pisa town is an excellent and a worthwhile exploration. We walked a distance of 2 km to the famous leaning tower and spent some time touring the area around the tower.
We took a different route on the way back to Pisa Centrale Station and boarded the next train to Rome.

Nong, do they still allow tourists to go into the Pisa Tower and climb to the top? I was there in 1978 and at that time I was able to get to the top.
ReplyDeleteOng,
ReplyDeleteYes. We saw tourists lining up to climb up to the top, for a small fee, i think.
Both of us skip the climbing. I don't think we have the stamina to reach the top. Dah tua, tak larat... he he...
